Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2015) Crash Combiners Wave 1 (Bumblebee and Sideswipe, Optimus Prime and Strongarm)

The idea with crash combiners is that you crash the vehicles into each other causing them to transform.  It isn’t perfect.  Each toy has a port on the front or back of the vehicle.  Toys are either waist and legs or torso, arms, and head.  They are interchangeable, but you need a  top and a bottom.  They can legitimately be called combiners, but unfortunately, the auto transformation gimmick when “crashed’ together only transforms the spring loaded top half.  The legs/feet must be manually transformed.  I’m just going to ignore that they call them Primestrong and Beeside.  Apparently Hasbro is continuing a trend of having five year olds choose their character names.

Bumblebee & Sideswipe

The vehicles are okay.  The robot modes are okay.  There is certainly nothing to get excited about here.  The combined toy is…okay.  It’s hard to find a lot to say about a toy that is just sort of…okay.  The big black area in his midsection doesn’t help.  It would look better just his waist was black and the rest yellow and red.

Optimus prime & Strongarm

Stop me if you’ve heard this before.  The robots and vehicles are…okay.  When combined, however, Optimus Prime and Strongarm do actually look pretty good as a combiner.

Overall: This was a woefully boring review of some woefully boring toys.  I definitely think the Optimus Prime and Strongarm set is better, but it’s a fairly small margin.
