Transformers: Energon Mexican McDonald’s Exclusives (Demolisher, Inferno, Megatron, Optimus Prime)
Four years ago I, purely by accident, I found a Transformers McDonald’s toy on eBay I’d never heard of and discovered it was part of a series of four Transformers: Energon toys released at Mexican McDonalds in 2005. (You can read my review of Inferno here.) It’s taken for more years to find the rest, but I’ve finally got them. They are missing most of the stickers, but as rare as they are, I’m not too worried about that. I actually got the set of 4 for $45 shipped from Spain. I took a chance on a zero feedback seller, and it feels like wining the lottery.
Demolishor
Other than the original Energon Demolishor toy, I can’t think of any other toys based on the dump truck design. For what it is his dump truck mode looks pretty good. His robot mode is not good. He has a button to auto transform him part of the way. You still need to pull out his arms and stand him up. I think his head is supposed to be spring loaded, but the spring in mine seems to have stopped springing. I kind of had to pry it out, but it does stay in place. His head sculpt is…bad. It basically looks like the shape of Energon Demolishor’s head, but without any of the detail.
Inferno
This is not the Inferno I got as part of the set, it’s the one I got four years ago that was still in the bag and has all his stickers. You can read my review, but he is basically a Jumpstarter, but ends up flat on his face after “jumping”. It is triggered by his bumper. I kind of like his head sculpt.
Megatron
As to his vehicle mode, I guess I can kind of see Energon Megatron inside this…thing…if I squint really hard and am severely sleep deprived. Like Inferno, he auto transforms from the green bar on the front of what is allegedly his jet nose. He looks way more like Energon Megatron in robot mode. Like Demolishor, his head no longer springs up.
Optimus Prime
Optimus Prime is the same design as Inferno. His head sculpt isn’t great. I can kind of see Optimus’s head shape in it…sort of, but it’s not good.
Overall: These guys are too terrible to recommend, but for the sheer rarity of them, it’s pretty cool to have them. Good luck finding them. I’ll still be looking for Demolishor, Megatron, and Optimus Prime in bag so I can get the stickers, but I doubt I’ll ever find them.
