Transformers: Generations: Siege Deluxe Refraktor

Refraktor

Robot Mode: I was all set to write a scathing review of this toy. Don’t worry, I’m still going to, but the news out of SDCC has somewhat lessened my ire. I’ll circle back to that. First off, I hate the name Refraktor. I would have almost preferred they call him Decepticon Warrior, since that is what they called him in the G1 cartoon. In robot mode Refraktor is a perfect recreation of Reflector from the G1 cartoon. I love the head sculpt, paint apps are great, and he has lots of molded details.

Vehicle Mode: Unfortunately Refraktor’s vehicle mode is a dumpster fire of epic proportions. It’s garbage, I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be. Of course, he has another vehicle mode, but you have to buy THREE OF THE SAME EXACT TOY to form the camera. It’s moronic. All they had to do was make it ten percent smaller (or whatever percent would make three of the $50) and put three of them in Leader Class box. They could have changed the red striping to blue and green for the other two. I could even have lived with the stupid name. Instead we get this.

Overall: Hasbro announced at Sand Diego Comic Con that we are getting a three pack that has been repainted and have new accessories to make them look more like the G1 toy. That’s cool, though it’s $70, so it’s way too expensive, but at least we’re getting it. I just wish they had given us a full cartoon version of Reflector rather than this joke. This toy is great in robot mode, but essentially has no alternate mode.
