Transformers: Studio Series Deluxe Class World War II Hot Rod

Hot Rod

Previous Mold Use: Studio Series Deluxe World War II Bumblebee

Hasbro has done a really good job with the Studio Series line overall. They’ve strived for accuracy and for the most part the toys have come out very well. Studio Series Hot Rod is a step backwards. They’ve given him the same vehicle mode as Bumblebee had in the World War II flashback from The Last Knight, but in that flashback Hot Rod was a completely different vehicle from Bumblebee, so Hasbro managed to fail with this toy before they even started. Having said that, the toy itself is pretty cool. In vehicle mode they have remolded the side panels, but it doesn’t add much to the toy. He has a new weapon, but unfortunately they left out the second weapon that mounted on Bumblebee’s roof. As with Bumblebee, they put almost no paint apps on Hot Rod’s vehicle mode. In robot mode Hot Rod has a new chest, waist, head, and shoulders. Hot Rod looks great in robot mode and I love his gun.

Overall: Hot Rod looks great even though he has the wrong vehicle mode. I just hope this isn’t a sign that Hasbro is going to start ignoring accuracy in favor of being able to repaint and remold toys. That would be a real shame, doubly so since this is the first Hot Rod we’ve got in the Studio Series line. He’s due for a really great toy in this line. Hopefully we’ll get that next year.
