Piranacon

All hail the king! Piranacon (AKA King Poseidon) is long overdue. He is the last of the combiners we are going to get, since I have given up all hope of ever getting G2 Defensor or Monstructor. In a word, Piranacon is awesome! His sword is made of the swords and axes of the individual figured and looks great. His head sculpt is perfect. His colors are perfect. The wings on top of his chest shield are chrome just like they should be. Now, awesome as he is, there are a few things that are less than ideal, though none take away from his overall awesomeness. First off, while some of the individual figures guns incorporate into Piranacon, you do have a pile of them leftover. This is pretty unusual for Takara. Probably just another sign of them becoming more like Hasbro. I took Piranacon’s gun, which has lots of ports on it, and all the extras and put them together, but it doesn’t really look great. Feels like with a little thought this could have combined nicely. I guess as long as they all combine it doesn’t matter how. What they really needed to do was put more ports on the individual bots to accommodate all the extra weapons when combined. I am not crazy about how Overbite’s weapon mode is plugged into the back of Piranacon’s hand. I would prefer if he was able to hold him like a gun. That is probably asking for a lot given the weight of each toy. It’s a miracle he can stand up with him at all, though he can’t possibly hold his arm up. His arm joints just are not strong enough, and the barrel of the gun has to rest on the surface or he falls over. His upper legs and body are pretty thin. Would have been nice if he had a little more heft.

Overall: Piranacon has been a long time coming. Its great to finally have him. It’s just a shame that Hasbro couldn’t just do a US box set rather than charging import prices for the Takara version.
